As reported by IGN, a recent statement from Sony's John Koller suggests that the company's next portable may not follow in Nintendo's three-dimensional footsteps.

"Our focus on 3D right now is on the console," said Koller, who acts as the director of hardware and marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment of America. While 3D on the PlayStation represents a "tremendous opportunity," Koller does not appear to think this extends to portable consoles.

Responding to Nintendo's surprise announcement of the Nintendo 3DS, Koller was skeptical, saying "8 and 9 year-olds playing 3D is a little bit of a stretch given where some of our research is right now."

Details are still scarce on the specifics of the Nintendo 3DS. For a full round-up of the facts and rumors as we know them, please refer to our info round-up from yesterday.
